St.
Andrews 1-3 Kirby 13th December Kirby
made it four wins on the bounce as they beat St. Andrews 3-1 on a damp
but very playable pitch in front of a crowd of 66 at Canal Street. Andy Harrison
got the scoring underway when the ball was cleared from a corner, Harrison was
underneath it, took it on his chest and volleyed it over the Andrews keeper and
into the onion bag from 24 yards out. St Andrews put a claim in for a penalty
when the Andrews striker got tangled up but the appeal was waved away only. St.
Andrews levelled the game before the break when they were awarded a penalty which
was slotted home. Kirby went into the second half just edging the possession and
came out after the break on top. Stu Verral came on for Rob Pitman and Danny Taylor
was added to the middle of the park early into the half alongside Danny Gibbons
who was bossing the centre of the pitch. Kirby went ahead when the Marc Aston
beat the offside trap, turned the Andrews defender and squeezed the ball in under
the keeper from a tight angle. Aston added his second of the game when an identical
run produced the same result this time beating the Andrews keeper all ends
up with a low shot into the far corner. Stu Verral could have scored when his
chance went wide from a brilliant cross but appeared to be in two minds whether
to head or volley the ball, Marc Schulz missed the easiest chance of the game
when he missed a 4 yard tap-in not what youd expect from the top
scorer. Overall, Gaz tinker-man Keenan made more changes before
the match to accommodate everyone and was pleased with the performance which his
squad put in on the day to put Kirby into 3rd spot.
Kirby
4-0 Graham Street Prims 6th December Kirbys
winning streak now extends to 3 games on the bounce 5 without loss, after
taking apart a poor Graham Street Prims side. Gaz tinker man Keenan
rotated his large squad and took 3 out of the back 4 from last weeks clean sheet
which created murmurs and frowns around the ground on what could have been
the coldest day at Raty Lane so far this season. Kirby went 1-0 up within 2
minutes when Rob Pitman scored his 4th goal of the season his first since
the opening day when his powerful shot squirmed through the hands of the Graham
Street keeper and over the line. Kirbys second came 5 minutes after when
Marc Schulz found himself on his own at the far post to hammer the ball in from
7 yards and put himself as outright top goal scorer. Graham Street held on until
the break and came out with a bit more fight for the next 45 minutes coming close
on a couple of occasions as the newly formed back 4 were stretched. Graham Street
had a penalty after Shilliam brought down the Graham Street forward but the spot
kick hit the bar. The game was put to bed when Verall put a deft touch on a
goal ward bound shot to beat the Graham Street keeper from 4 yards and Verral
got the last towards the end after a fine move put him in and his hard accurate
shot found the bottom corner of the Graham Street net from a tight angle. Andy
Harrison was this weeks man of the match, he assisted 3 of the goals with his
runs and shimmys creating more havoc with the Graham Street defence than
a bull at a china shop convention.
Greenwood
Meadows 0-3 Kirby 29th November Kirby got their
first away win of the season at the expense of Greenwood Meadows. Jamie Mason
and Marc Schulz were on target to share the top goalscorer spot and Josh Pitsillides
scoring his first for the club.
Kirby
3-1 Blackwell Miners Welfare 22nd November Kirby
went up to 4th place after another near miss at Raby Lane. Jamie Mason put
Kirby up within a couple of mintues after latching onto a keeper error. The game
looked like it was going to be a dull 1-0 affair until the last 7 minutes when
the remaining goals were scored. Marc Shulz scored another and Chris McCathies
scores his first goal of the season.
Holwell
Sports 2-2 Kirby 15th November Kirby dropped
points at Holwell and dropped down the table to 6th as they drew 2-2 to make them
the highest drawing team in the league. Goals from Jamie Mason and Marc Aston
got their 5th draw in their league campaign in front of a crowd of 90.
Kirby
3-3 Gedling Miners Welfare 8th November Kirby
went 3-0 up at half time with goals from Stu Verrall, a Craig Pietrzyk penalty
and a Jamie Mason goal which looked suspiciously like an own goal. Gedling Miners
came out at half time looking at a defeat but Kirby gifted them a point after
a second half collapse at the back let them in to get the 3 goals and a share
of the points.
Kirby
2-3 Gedling Town 4th November Stu Verrall scored
the fastest goal of the season after a well worked move put Kirby 1 up after 3
minutes, but this was cancelled out within a minute after the re-start after Gedling
raced back up the field and slotted one in. Gedling scored again to take the lead
into the half before adding another to basically put them out of reach. Kirby
were dominant in the second half having Gedling on the ropes for most of it and
a hard shot made he Gedling keeper parry the ball into the path of Jamie Mason
to tap in and at 3-2 with 20 minutes left, Kirby got a penalty. Marc Schulz stepped
up to put Kirby level but the Gedling keeper made a great save to tip it around
the post. Kirby were pegging Gedling back for the remainder of the half giving
Gedling only a handful of chances but couldnt get the equaliser and the
point they deserved.
Kirby
3-1 Greenwood Meadows 1st November Kirby go third
in the table after a fine win against Greenwood Meadows. Marc Schulz scores
all three for Kirby as the cruised to a 3-1 win at Ratby Lane. A first half penalty
and a toe poke from Schulz sent Kirby 2-0 up before the break. Schulz sealed the
win with 20 minutes to go from the spot again but Kirby leaked a fine effort from
Greenwood and the clean sheet disappeared.
Kirby
3-0 Dunkirk 25th October Kirby inflicted Dunkirk's
first defeat as they beat them 3-0 and climbed up two places in the league. Kirby
scored all their goals before half time, a Marc Schultz penalty was followed my
Stu Verrall getting his fourth of the season along with 'Mr Kirby' Jamie Mason
with the last which appeared to be the nail in the Dunkirk coffin in front of
a crowd of 32. Kirby looked at ease until 5 minutes after the restart when
Richard Darlison was sent off for a professional foul resulting in a Dunkirk penalty.
It looked as if Dunkirk were going to get back into the match but they were denied
by Elliot Shilliam's save from the spot. Kirby held out with relative ease
to grab all three points.
Kirby
2-1 Ibstock 18th October Jamie Mason rescued
Kirby for the second week in succession with a late winner to put Kirby through
to the next round of the League Cup. Kirby had most of the possession but went
down 1-0 before the break to an ordinary Ibstock side. Whats now looking
a familiar weekly story, it was Kirby who had most of the play in the second half
but couldnt get the ball in the net. The equaliser came from a through ball
for Danny Taylor to latch on to and slot it past eh keeper leaving the Ibstock
defenders arguing with the referee and linesman questioning whether it was offside.
Kirby missed more chances to put the game to bed but missed the target and the
game went into extra time. Mason had been let loose coming on and basically upsetting
the Ibstock defence and the referee on more than one occasion. The
winner came when Mason sprung the Ibstock offside trap and lobbed the Ibstock
keeper from just outside the area.
St.
Andrews 4-0 Kirby 14th October Kirby are now
out of the Westerby Cup!
Kirby
3-2 Bardon Hill 11th October Kirby were back
to winning ways as they grabbed all 3 points in a dramatic finish to this East
Midlands Conties League match in front of a crowd of 65. Jamie Mason - opened
his goal scoring account with the first goal of the game in the first half which
was cancelled out leading up to the half time whistle. Kirby went 2-1 down
before Marc Schultz scored his second of the season from the penalty spot to even
it up. The game looked like it was heading for a draw until the very last minute
when a hard shot cannoned of the Bardon crossbar where Mason was on hand to guide
the ball in and steal all 3 points and jump up 3 places in the league.
Barrow
Town 4-2 Kirby 7th October Kirby lost at Barrow
to make it 2 on the bounce and only 1 win in 5 league games. Jamie Mason started
up front along side Stu Verrall with ex Barrow player Rob Pitman in midfield.
Barrow took an early lead and Kirby let 2 more in before the break. The cups and
saucers must have been thrown at half time because Kirby came out and had most
of the play in the second half. A goal from Marc Schultz gave Kirby hope but they
couldn't turn the momentum into goals, a strong penalty shout for a Barrow hand-ball
fell on deaf ears as most this season and had this been given you felt sure that
Kirby would have had a strong case for all 3 points if the spot kick been put
away. Marc Aston came on for Verrall and Captain Mason made way for Matt Melbourne.
Barrow shut the game off with their fourth goal before Melbourne danced his way
into the box and slotted the ball home after the attention of 2 Barrow defenders
clipping his heels on the way in. Although the alarm bells aren't ring yet,
Kirby need to get a win under their belt very soon to have any chance of keeping
in touch with the leaders.
Kirby
1-3 Pilkington XXX 4th October Kirby's
FA Vase run came to an end on Saturday as they lost to Midland Combination side
Pilkington XXX. Marc Aston was on hand to score the only goal for Kirby who
went into the half 2-1 down. Kirby bossed the second half going close on more
than one occasion - hitting the woodwork 3 times throughout the match. Kirby
had a strong shout of a penalty in the first half when Verrall was brought down
by th keeper and had a further penalty claim in the secand half when a Pilkington
defender handled the ball in his own area - the score was 2-1 at the time and
would have turned the game if it was awarded and converted.
Blackwell
Miners Welfare 2-2 Kirby 27th September Kirby
drew with bottom of the league Blackwell Minors after squandering a hatful of
chances and letting 2 sloppy goals in. And Harrison was on hand to fire home
a bullet of a volley along with Stu Verrall to make it 2-2 at half time. Blackwell
got the share of the points from an unmarked throw-in and a goalkeeper error.
Kirby
1-0 Wednesfield 20th September Kirby
went into the next round of the FA Vase as they beat Wednesfield. Stu Verral
was on hand to put his head where others daren't to nod in the winner for Kirby
to meet Pilkington XXX in the next round on October 4th. Kirby looked to be
the sronger of the two teams on the day with the Kirby shot-stopper only being
worried on two occasions. The strike-force of Pitman, Verral and Aston caused
problems all day for the West Midlands team and the return of Marc Shultz and
John Grady added a bit more stability to the team.
Kirby
1-1 St. Andrews 13th September Stu
Verrall scores his first goal for Kirby. The ex St. Andrews striker was captain
for the day against his old club in this East Midlands match-up at Ratby Lane
in front of a crowd of 70. St. Andrews took the lead in the second half and
things looked up when Kirby defender Darlison was sent off with 15 minutes on
the clock. Kirby pressed on and Verrall scrambled his first goal with 10 minutes
to go and Kirby hung on to share the points.
Radford
2-0 Kirby 6th September Kirby didn't
do the double on Radford at their ground. After a 5-1 routing at Ratby Lane it
looked on the cards that Kirby would be favourites in this EMCL match-up in Nottingham. The
first half was mostly Radfords with thir first goal coming after just 10 minutes,
a ball down the middle caught the Kirby defence flat and the Radford striker beat
the offside trap(?), rounded the Kirby keeper and passed for the ball to be slotted.
Kirby came out for the second half with a bit more about them than the first
half but Radford were beating them to most balls and having more shots, their
second came after 53 minutes after a powerful shot was saved by Shillam but rebounded
to the Radford striker to pass into the net. Radford could have had at least 2
or 3 more but for the Kirby stopper. All-in-all, a bad day at the office, but
credit to Radford who never stopped.
Kirby
4-0 Ellistown 25th August Kirby put
four goals past Ellistown on a hot bank holiday Monday to go top of the East Midlands
Counties League in front of 135 fans - the biggest crowd of the season so far. Marc
Aston opened the scoring with a well taken goal slotted past the Ellistown keeper
before Craig Pietrzyk added another before half time. Andy Harrison opened his
account as he lobbed the keeper from 22 yards before substitute Jamie Aston came
on and finished off the win. Ellistown were close to getting a consolation
at the death but for an outstanding fingertip save from keeper Shilliam - one
of a handful of brilliant stops.
Kirby
5-1 Radford 23rd August Rob Pitman
scores a hat-trick in Kirby's first home game in front of a crowd of 65. Cheeky
got one well worked team goal along with Marc Aston on the scoresheet. Danny
Agar made his full first team appearance in the right back slot and fitted in
comfortably, Jamie Mason was captain for the day but was substitued in the second
half with fitness worries. New signing Stu Verrall came close to opening his Kirby
goal scoring account and many occasions but was thwarted by the Radford keeper. Radford
missed a peanlty in the first half when the spot-kick was put high and wide after
keeper Elliott Shilliam brought down the Radford striker.
Holbrook
Miners Welfare 0-0 Kirby 16th August Kirby
kicked off their first game in the newly created East Midlands Counties League
with a goalless draw away at Holbrook Miners Welfare. Kirby could have got
their first three points but didn't take their chances and had to play the last
half an hour with ten men when Rob Pitman was sent off for two cautions.
